Blizzard Won’t Get Rid of Overwatch Hero Stacking: “It’s a Core Concept and Strategy”

Blizzard has responded to complaints regarding Hero stacking in Overwatch, saying that while they might do away with players being able to run duplicate Heroes in a Weekly Brawl variation, its inclusion in the main game is “a core concept and strategy” in the game.

Hero stacking is the ability for a team to select the same Heroes in a match, with many having criticized certain tactics such as a team employing two Bastion and Tjorbon players, effectively turning a map into a sea of turrets. These complaints have become more prominent since the introduction of Competitive Play, which is in its beta stages on PC, with many bemoaning cheap team compositions that are being frequently wheeled out.

Blizzard has now responded to this criticism via the official Overwatch Twitter account, replying to a user who asked whether there would be a no duplicate character mode in a future mode, tweeting: “Perhaps in a future Weekly Brawl. Hero stacking is a core concept and strategy of Overwatch. Teamwork is key!”

Hero stacking has been a key component of Overwatch since the game released, though many have frequently requested a separate mode for those who wish to play with teams who are forced to utilize different Heroes. It seems that Blizzard do not have any plans to introduce this in a future update aside from a potential inclusion in its Weekly Brawl mode, so those complaining better start working harder on their strategies.
