60 percent of the time, it’s the boxed wine that’ll do you in every time.

That doesn’t make any sense, and neither does the fact that the St. Louis Billikens men’s basketball team not only lost their game against St. Bonaventure Wednesday night, but they also lost their bus driver to a DWI charge after she allegedly got shithoused on a box of wine and drove their team bus some 40 miles away to Randolph, New York.

According to ESPN, 56-year-old Linda Edmister was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated after she “registered a 0.22 blood alcohol content, which is more than five times above the legal limit of 0.04 for New York drivers with commercial licenses.”

“With a vehicle that large and her intoxication level, we’re actually lucky nothing happened,” New York State Trooper James O’Callaghan told ESPN. “Is it unusual? Yes. Typically the bus would have been stolen but not the driver arrested for being intoxicated.”

The Billikens players and coaches were initially concerned that some of the gear they left on the bus was a lost cause, but the police were eventually able to get the bus back to the St. Bonaventure campus, where everything that had been left onboard was accounted for.

The team eventually made it to the local airport and hopped on a flight sometime after midnight.

The stolen or “missing” bus is just the latest setback in what has been one pig shit awful season for St. Louis. At 8-16 and near the bottom of the Atlantic 10 standings, the March offseason can’t get here soon enough. Although it could always be worse. I mean, while being known as a Billikens basketball player is pretty awful these days, it’s nowhere near as bad as telling somebody you play football at Baylor.
