How to Unlock the Nintendo Switch Easter Egg

The Switch has a fun little secret you can unlock on its home menu screen, with the Easter Egg allowing you to access a bunch of new sound effects if you play around with it.

The Easter Egg has been outlined by YouTube channel Nintendo Life, who revealed that you can change the default sounds with a few button combinations. In order to unlock the Easter Egg you must first have your Switch in portable mode, with it only working if you switch (no pun intended) from sleep to active. After doing so, the console will ask users to press a non-specified button three times in a row, with Nintendo hiding a cool little secret for those who fiddle around with the console’s Joy-Con controllers.

If users press the ZL button on this screen, a quick cymbal noise will play. If they press the ZR button, the default sound is replaced by a comical bike horn. Similarly weird noises play when you click in the Joy-Con’s analog sticks.

Nintendo has routinely hidden audio Easter Eggs in its consoles, most famously with the Gamecube’s startup screen which, when holding the ‘Z’ button on one or all 4 of its controllers, would play one of two different audio clips. While this Switch Easter Egg doesn’t change anything about the home screen itself, it is nonetheless a fun addition to the console for users to discover.
