Does the real world really suck that bad?
The answer is apparently yes.
According to UNILAD, people who have played The Sims over the last 18 years are healthier and happier than those who have chosen to just put up with their real lives on a daily basis.
If you’ve never played The Sims, better late than never would certainly apply here, as you can apparently create a virtual you and then watch as his life continually grows into something that is way better than your real one. I’m talking having sex whenever you want, eating whatever you want, working wherever you want and if it so pleases you, dying whenever you want.
And that notion of spending more time in a fantasy world than living in one that’s actually real, says psychoanalyst Steve McKeown, is extremely healthy for you.
“It is important to remember that immersing yourself in your imagination periodically is actually a very positive form of escapism and is considered important for our brain functions as it can expands our creativity,” McKeown said. “It allows the gamer to express a part of their personality that may not have known if they hadn’t played. Albert Einstein once said ‘creativity is intelligence having fun.'”
“Our consciousness is very adaptable and allows us to create an opening to different paradigms of reality every time we focus on alternate versions of life through our thoughts,” he continued. “With the assistance of life simulation games such as Sims we can enhance our inner experience. Without escapism we would simply burn out. It’s the main reason why we dream at night when we sleep as it’s our minds way of disengaging from the state of conscious living.”
Well, there you have it. It’s apparently better for your livelihood if you call in sick to your real job tomorrow and stay home to play your video games. Terrific.
