In 1821 Michael Faraday invented the electric motor. In 1991 Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide web. And in 2004 Mark Zuckerberg invented Facebook. All so Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters could play a virtual concert in 2022 after the Super Bowl.
Like some twisted version of the apes evolving into Homosapien man, it’s a poster of technological evolution we wouldn’t want hanging on our wall. And it’s all happening in the metaverse where, as we already know by now, things are bound to go horribly wrong.
One man who’s feeling confident about it all is Foo Fighters frontman (former pizza delivery driver and current pedlar of Facebook’s $10 billion VR investment), Mr. Grohl.
“We’ve pretty much done it all,” Grohl said modestly. “But we’ve never collaborated with Mark Romanek on a conceptual set of songs (including one being played live for the first time ever) for a worldwide audience, where everyone has the best seats in the house thanks to the most badass VR tech…until now. Join us when we cross that one off the FF bucket list!”
We really can’t wait till they finish that list.
Obviously, the Foo Fighters virtual concert is free but still requires a Meta Quest VR headset in order for users to immerse themselves in the full experience, which hopefully means NFT merch for sale in the virtual parking lot, as well as virtual drug dealers selling digital dad drugs.
Aside from Facebook, Horizon Venues is also streaming the concert that promises a front-row seat to Dave Grohl’s guitar face (or your money back). For concertgoers who’re more about the ambient vibe, the concert also features a virtual lobby where fans can meet up with friends and fellow fanboys while their girlfriends IRL stares at them angrily from the kitchen.
The future is here. Just don’t expect to find Nirvana there.
