Captain America: The First Avenger, the Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer, The Wolfman) directed adaptation of the iconic Marvel (Timely) character, Captain America, is poised to be one of the biggest films of the summer, as well as the lead in to Marvel’s multi-lead mega superhero mashup, 2012’s The Avengers. Between the Captain America teaser poster, the Captain America Super Bowl spot, and the very cool looking Red Skull image release, fans have received a consistent amount of Cap related content and it has been looking good.
Captain America: The First Avenger started filming in late June of 2010 in England, and wrapped production early in October. IMDB currently lists the film in Post Production, and we assumed the film was basically a wrap.
We were wrong.
Recently, while attending a press event that included several props from Marvel Studios productions, including Captain America’s iconic shield, we asked if this was the same prop that had been shown at the Marvel booth at last year’s Comic Con. We were informed by a staffer that the this shield was not previously shown at SDCC, and it was different from the one seen at SDCC. The staffer also said that this particular shield was used in the film, and was actually going to be sent back to the UK in two weeks to be used in reshoots.
Wait, did they just say reshoots? We hope everything is going ok with the production, but reshoots just four months before the film is set to hit screens has rarely been good news for any movie.
Captain America: The First Avenger fights it’s way in to theaters on July 22, 2011 in 3D and 2D.
