If the season finale of “Strike Back” seemed to write Rhona Mitra’s Major Rachel Dalton out of the series then there may been a good reason for that.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mitra has just signed on for the pilot episode of TNT’s “The Last Ship.” Michael Bay is executive producing the project with Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane writing the script and Jonathan Mostow set to direct the pilot.
Prior to costarring on the most recent season of Cinemax’s “Strike Back,” Mitra had stints on “Party of Five,” “The Practice,” “Boston Law,” “Nip/Tuck,” “The Gates” and “Gideon’s Crossing.” In the feature film world, Mitra has starred in “Doomsday” (pictured above), “Underworld: Rise of The Lycans,” “The Number 23” and “Shooter.”
“The Last Ship” is based upon William Brinkley’s novel of the same name. The potential TV series takes place after a global disaster kills off most of the Earth’s population, with the crew of the naval destroyer the Nathan James are among the only survivors that remain. Mitra will portray Rachel Scott, a woman who is described as “a direct, strong-willed, intelligent and fearless paleomicrobiologist.”
Recently departed “Grey’s Anatomy” costar Eric Dane will headline “The Last Ship” as Captain Tom Chanler, the commanding officer of the USS Nathan James. Michaela McManus will play Lt. Jackie Makena, while Travis Van Winkle will step into the role of Danny Green, a SEAL leader aboard the Nathan James.
Sam Spruell is also set to costar in “The Last Ship” as Quincy, a paleomicrobiologist who will presumably be working with Mitra’s character. And Christina Elmore will portray Lt. Alisha Granderson.
