Exclusive: Alexander Skarsgård Isn’t Sure About Tarzan

We got a chance to interview Alexander Skarsgård for his new movie Disconnect, a drama about dangers that can be found on the internet. We’ll bring you the full interview next week, but when I got to asking about Tarzan, Skarsgård updated me on the actual status of the project. Skarsgård is reportedly in the running for the role of Tarzan in a David Yates directed film, but he wouldn’t call himself officially attached yet.

“No, I mean we’ll see what happens, Skarsgård said. “I’m not quite sure yet.”

He revealed he has read the script, but blockbusters being what they are, you can’t just walk into the studio and say, “I’m your Tarzan.”

“It’s a very, very good script, Skarsgård said. “It’s a really, really good script but it’s also a very big movie so it’s not super easy to just get a project like that off the ground.”

Skarsgård was in the running for the role of Thor, and considered a frontrunner for some time. However, he said he has not necessarily been courting a franchise role.

“No, not at all. It’s all about finding scripts and directors that I’m creatively excited about, be it a small European arthouse film like Melancholia or a cool little gritty indie like Disconnect or a huge movie. Whatever it is, it’s always about the script, the character and the director. Am I excited about working with this director and exploring this character. So I don’t really care about other things.”

Yates being one such director. “He’s arguably one of the greatest directors out there. He’s a phenomenal, very intelligent guy, an amazing director.”

We’ll have more with Skarsgård on Disconnect, The East, True Blood and his thoughts about The Avengers next week at CraveOnline.
