During the second season of “Game of Thrones,” Neil Marshall was a last minute replacement to direct the penultimate episode of the season, “Blackwater;” which featured the first large scale battle in the series to date. And next year, Marshall will be back for the next epic battle.
According to Empire, Marshall will direct the season finale of “Game of Thrones” Season 4. The rest of Empire’s report has some massive spoilers, so you may want to skip the rest of this paragraph. The short version is that the Night Watch at Castle Black will come under a full scale assault from the forces Mance Rayder’s Wilding army.
If the report is completely accurate, it would break from the usual pattern followed by “Game of Thrones” of putting the biggest events of the season in the ninth episode.
Marshall has previously directed the feature films Dog Soldiers, The Descent and Doomsday. Marshall was also signed to direct the pilot episode of STARZ’s upcoming pirate series, “Black Sails” earlier this year.
“Game of Thrones” Season 4 will debut in Spring 2014.
