Indira Varma Joins ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4

Last month, word broke that Pedro Pascal will play the Red Viper, Prince Oberyn Martell next year on “Game of Thrones.” And now we know who will portray Oberyn’s lover.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that  Indira Varma has signed on to play Ellaria Sand, Oberyn’s “sexually adventurous paramour” during “Game of Thrones” Season 4. Both characters are said to have key roles in the upcoming storyline.

This marks a return to HBO for Varma, who starred on the first season of “Rome” in 2005. In the U.S., Varma is best known for appearing in “Human Target,” “Luther” and “Torchwood.” However, Varma has extensive experience on British television, including stints on “Silk,” “Hunted,” “Hustle,” “The Whistleblowers” and “World Without End.” Varma has also appeared in the films Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, Mad Dogs, Bride and Prejudice and Basic Instinct 2.

Thus far, Varma, Pacal and “Sherlock” co-creator, Mark Gatiss are the most prominent additions to the cast of characters on “Game of Thrones” for the new season. However, more casting announcements are expected in the near future as “Game of Thrones” begins production on its fourth season.

“Game of Thrones” Season 4 will debut in Spring 2014.
