Miramax & STARZ To Develop ‘Cop Land’ For TV

Back in 1997, The Wolverine director James Mangold helmed Cop Land, a drama about a Sheriff (played by Sylvester Stallone) in a small town littered with corrupt police officers. Now Cop Land may live again on television.

According to Deadline, STARZ and Miramax are teaming up for a “Cop Land” TV series, which is currently in development. Mangold is also attached to the project as an executive producer and he is co-writing the pilot with Brian Goluboff.

Like the film, the proposed “Cop Land’ TV series will take place in a suburban New Jersey town that earns its nickname from the large number of cops who live there. And as before, the Sheriff will discover that the town has been corrupted by the mob and dirty cops.

The Deadline report also notes that Miramax and Harvey Weinstein may soon enter into joint ventures which would allow Weinstein to access the film properties he oversaw when he was at Miramax. Potentially this could mean that “Cop Land” won’t be the only Miramax movie getting a new lease on life for television.
