HBO’s “True Blood” is based upon author Charlaine Harris’ novel series, The Southern Vampire Mysteries which she recently ended after her 13th book. Next year, “True Blood” will also come to a conclusion.
Earlier today, HBO officially announced that “True Blood” Season 7 will wrap up its signature vampire series after another shortened ten episode run. All major cast members whose characters lived through the sixth season finale will be back, including Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgård.
In a statement, HBO’s President of Programming, Michael Lombardo said “True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.”
Prior to the premieres of “Boardwalk Empire” and “Game of Thrones,” “True Blood” had been the signature drama on HBO. However, the previously mentioned HBO dramas have dominated the critical response and Emmy recognition while “True Blood” seemingly had lower viewership during its sixth season while still managing to bring in 10.6 million viewers across all platforms.
If HBO keeps to its usual schedule with “True Blood,” the final season should premiere in June 2014 and wrap up in August.
