The first Download Festival 2014 headliner has been announced.
Avenged Sevenfold will take to the stage as headliners on the Friday evening of the weekend-long event, with Rob Zombie also announced to play on the same night.
Of the announcement, producers Live Nation said: “Over the course of the last 14 years, Avenged Sevenfold have grown to be one of the biggest names in heavy music. Consistently releasing groundbreaking, genre-defying music, they’ve written some of the best and most acclaimed rock albums of the 21st century.
“Their breathtaking live shows have garnered an unshakeable reputation. Download history is sure to be made when they take their rightful place as UK festival headliners for the first time on the hallowed turf of Donington Park.”
The metal/rock festival, which will take place between June 13th – 15th, last year featured headline sets from Slipknot, Rammstein and Iron Maiden, along with performances from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, 30 Seconds to Mars and Bullet For My Valentine.
Organiser Andy Copping has gone on record to state that his ideal choices for Download Festival 2014 headliners would be either a reunited Led Zeppelin, Van Halen or Guns ‘n’ Roses (along with Axl Rose).
We’ll post more details of Download’s lineup as and when we receive them.
