Excited to play Destiny on your PC with maxed out graphics? You might want to hold on that thought.
Bungie stated to IGN during an interview that the PC version of Destiny has been moved aside in an effort to meet the release schedule for its console releases. Bungie’s Eric Osborne said:
It’s a huge challenge to ship four platforms and a massive opportunity to reach a new audience.
He continued:
We know there are a lot of people out there asking for PC and we know that there are a lot of gamers that would willingly give us money, but what we have to do is make sure we’re focused enough to bring a good experience to any platform that we ship on. What we 100 percent are not going to do is spread ourselves so thin that it negatively harms the other platforms, so right now we have the four platforms, which is a lot to focus on.
Those four platforms are Xbox 360, Xbox One PS3, and PS4. Both next-gen platforms have been advertised as being easy for developers to port to with their X86 architecture, making this news puzzling.
Destiny was hailed as one of the most impressive games demonstrated at E3 2013, winning several awards in the process.
In all likelihood, a PC version should arrive months after the game debuts, similar to what many expect with Grand Theft Auto V. Some publishers have pointed at PC game piracy as a reason for their prioritization of console releases. Dealing with optimization on hardware from many different vendors has also been proclaimed an obstacle during development. It’s unknown if either of these have affected Destiny‘s PC version.
