The inaugural NYE Wet’N’Wild festival has been cancelled hours before it was set to kick off.
Organisers cited “a major technical production issue” as the reason for prematurely ending what was supposed to be Australia’s “first ever (music) festival to be held at a water theme park”.
Wet’N’Wild was officially called off at 10am on the 31st, six hours before the event was scheduled to begin.
“We have made the very difficult decision to postpone our New Year’s Eve event at Wet’n’Wild Sydney,’’ a statement from organisers One Cube Entertainment read.
‘‘This decision is in the best interest of our patrons due to some last minute production issues.’’
The event will supposedly be moved to Australia Day, however the late cancellation has still infuriated ticket holders who paid between $110-200 to see a mix of local and international DJs.
Ticketholders can attend on the 26th (lineup yet to be confirmed) or attend an alternative event to instead be held at the event’s after party- The Roxy Hotel. The Roxy will host the same acts as on the Wet’N’Wild bill, kicking off at 5pm, and is expected to draw at least 2,500 people.
The official Wet’N’Wild Facebook page was still encouraging people to buy tickets to the ‘‘almost sold out’’ event mid-morning of the 31st.
Slated to play tonight were Belgian producer Gtronic, Melbourne DJ Will Sparks, electronic act Uberjak’d and Sydney DJ Tigerlily and Yolanda Be Cool with attendees able to access “some of the tallest and fastest water rides in the world”.
