Lady Gaga‘s plan to sensationalize her way to the top of the SXSW mountain has hit a major roadblock. The waning Madonna disciple was set to perform on the massive Doritos stage this March in Austin, a massive corporate eyesore designed to look like a vending machine for God, but the city of Austin decided against the plan and rejected the event.
As Austin 360 reports, Gaga’s set was scrapped due to “public safety concerns.” A statement read from the city reads, “We look at the size and capacity of the location covered by the permit being sought and how it fits with the anticipated attendance, based on event capacity and promotion,” and “at the end of the day, it’s a parking lot.”
Gaga is currently promoting her badly underperforming new album ArtPop, and with the desperately attention-seeking singer on the ropes after the SXSW cancellation it’s expected that she’ll find another venue to play during the week in Austin. Hell, maybe the PR machine can book her in that coveted keynote speaker spot – this is the latest SXSW has gone without announcing their music keynote speaker, so there’s a chance!
