If you were on the interwebs at all Tuesday you were sure to have run across the most amazing invention since the Tamagotchi. Engineers — and one heck of a professional film crew — shocked the world by showcasing the very first real life hoverboard, just like the one seen 25 years ago in Back To The Future Part II.
Doc Brown himself — aka Christopher Lloyd — even helped unveil the 'Huvr' board to pro skater Tony Hawk. Moby, Terrell Owens and other actors even got in on the fun, demonstrating how easy it was to ride on the toy that "has more technology than the satellites we sent to space in 2010."
Back To The Future is one of my favorite movies of all-time. I've literally watched it more times than a human being should rightfully watch anything. Therefore, I wanted this to be real just like everyone else. But come on….this wasn't believable from the get-go. Others in the media knew it as well; after doing some research it appears Funny Or Die is behind the genius Huvr Corp. campaign.
This screengrab seems to show a harness being used, while Andy Baio discovered that an actor named Nelson Cheng played one of HUVr's lead engineers. The Verge also found out that the team behind the HUVr PR campaign – Spring Studio – also built Funny or Die's revamped site.
Mashable followed this up with further proof. They found the online portfolio of costume designer Lauren Beidenharn – since edited – which said she worked on the "HUVR BOARDS" commercial for Funny or Die last November.
Maybe self-dry jackets, self-lacing shoes and government controlled weather are more realistic. We all know the Cubbies won't be winning the World Series anytime soon.
