Patrick Brennan Is Blackout on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

Last week, it was announced that Amy Acker would be appearing on Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” as Audrey, the Cellist and former girlfriend of Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). At the time, it was mentioned that Coulson will have to protect Audrey from a specific threat. Now we know who is coming after Audrey and why.

Marvel has revealed that Patrick Brennan has been signed for at least two episodes of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” including the 18th episode, “Providence” and the episode immediately following it. Brennan will portray Marcus Daniels, the civilian alter ego of the Marvel supervillain, Blackout.

As originally created by Marv Wolfman, Carmine Infantino and Tom Palmer; Blackout was a Nova villain with the ability to create constructs, energy blasts and portals using his connection to the Dark Force dimension. In “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Daniels will have the ability to draw in energy from anything in his vicinity.

While speaking with Marvel.com, Brennan teased the introduction of his character on the show. “When you first see [Daniels]… literally the boats in the harbor went off,” explained Brennan. “As he walked down the harbor, the lights went off. It was like a kid in the candy store. They made me this incredible coat, it was a trenchcoat with a collar sticking up, that as soon as I put it on I felt like a villain.”

Brennan also elaborated on why Daniels is stalking Audrey in the show.

“This guy, Marcus Daniels, a.k.a. Blackout, was shrouded in darkness, his soul, everything about him was shrouded in darkness until he comes across this Cello player,” said Brennan. “And the music was the only light that came into his soul, and it gave him hope and it gave him some sense of what light was… That aspect of it totally intrigued me. I thought that was quite beautiful and very interesting, that aspect of the character.”

Prior to this role, Brennan appeared in “Sons of Anarchy,” The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, “Crash,” “The Black Donnellys” and “CSI: New York.” Brennan’s first appearance on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will air on Tuesday, April 15.
