Colorado Symphony Orchestra Announces ‘Bring Your Own Cannabis’ Events

As the more enlightened parts of our nation warm up to the idea that “Freedom” means more than an empty buzzword to convince Americans that spending trillions of dollars on wars for material resources is noble, the first cultural explorations of legal cannabis are yielding some fascinating new entrepreneurial developments. With weed now recreationally legal in Colorado, a new marijuana-friendly industry is springing up to meet the overwhelming anticipation and celebration of freedom for Americans to grow and use a plant with a kaleidoscope of industrial, medicinal and recreational uses – without fear of police intervention.

The Colorado Symphony Orchestra, which has a successful history of “Beethoven and Brews” concerts featuring craft beers included in the ticket price, has expanded to offer “bring your own cannabis” concerts. The CSO’s website explains their guidelines for the 21-and-up event: “Participant understands that attendees may use marijuana at this event, as is their right under Colorado law. Cannabis will not be sold at the event, however, and the price of the reservation is entirely unrelated to whether one chooses to use cannabis or not.”

Chief Executive of the CSO told The Cannabist that the aim is to expand their audience by being culturally inclusive: “Part of our goal is to bring in a younger audience and a more diverse audience, and I would suggest that the patrons of the cannabis industry are both younger and more diverse than the patrons of the symphony orchestra.”

The concerts, which begin on May 23rd at the Space Gallery in Denver, are being organized by Edible Events, a pro-cannabis promoter. The run will conclude with a performance at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Sept 13, which sounds like one hell of a great way to spend a late-Summer night.
