Half-Life 3 news can get a bit tiresome; mainly because more often than not, it’s less like news and more like clinging to small slivers of hope that are actually meaningless. I can respect the wishful thinking that results from forlorn desperation as much as the next guy, but I’d prefer to leave wild speculation to those who specialize in it. Luckily, recent comments from Minh Le (former Valve employee and Counter-Strike creator) require little to no speculation at all.
In a conversation with goRGNtv, Le all but flat-out stated that both Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 are underway in some fashion.
I don’t think I can talk about that, to be honest, but I think it’s kind of public knowledge, that people know that it is being worked on. I guess I could say that I did see something that looked kinda like the Half-Life universe. And I mean it wouldn’t surprise anyone if I said they’re doing it, they’re working on it, yeah. So to go on a limb I’d say I did see some concept art for Half-Life 3.
Regarding a new Left 4 Dead, he said the following.
I saw it, it looks great. I was really excited when I saw that, I was like ‘wow, this looks great’.
Man, quotes are the worst — I feel like the above probably sounded a lot more insightful when spoken aloud in real life.
Despite the discovery of both Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 amidst leaked Valve documentation last year, studio head Gabe Newell has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t want his studio manufacturing Half-Life sequels like it’s their job (even though it kind of is, or will be at some point). Still, as long as Le isn’t hunted down and silenced for spilling the beans somewhat, it’s nice to have reaffirmation that these games will eventually arrive.
