Square Enix has a couple of games that could have huge impact on the gaming landscape. Unfortunately, both of those games won’t be at E3 2014.
When setting up our schedule for E3, we noticed that Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 weren’t among the attendees for Square Enix’s line-up. It turns out there’s a reason for that. Producer Shinji Hashimoto has confirmed to Famitsu that both games won’t be at E3 this year. He said:
Well, first I’d like to say that development for FFXV is going well. Internally, we try to ascertain the best timing for revealing new information about FFXV to the fans. So when we were going over our promotion plans, we judged that this year’s E3 would not be the best time to exhibit information about FFXV. Instead we are currently planning to exhibit new information at events after E3 2014.
The little we’ve heard of FFXV and Kingdom Hearts 3 has made them look like games that could propel Square Enix back into the spotlight. Inherently, they’re going to require a lot of development time. As much as I want to say they’ll be coming out in 2015, I have a feeling we might see at least one of these two games until 2016. Hopefully the painful wait is worth it.
Although E3 2014 won’t host these two titles, Tokyo Game Show is coming in September and typically is a show that Square Enix has a strong presence at.
