We’ve all been there. You’re in the middle of a big test or an important work meeting or stuck in traffic…and nature calls. And it isn’t just a standard “my man, I’ve got to go” kind of call. It’s more along the lines of a “Holy God, if I don’t get to a bathroom right now, this is really gonna get incredibly ugly…and at the moment, my odds are 50-50” kind of call.
So it’s tough to heap too much disapproval on LeBron James, who disappeared late in the first quarter of the Heat-Spurs NBA Finals Game 4 Thursday night. As reported on Crave sports site NESN, King James all but sprinted off the court and into the locker room, only to return after missing about a minute of game action.
Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra confirmed after the game, that yes, King James did have to heed the call of Little LeBron and hit the throne, NBA Finals be damned.
Again, maybe this was a moment LeBron had no control over. Maybe that roast beef sandwich he had for lunch chose THAT moment to stage its return and there was little the NBA’s best player could do about it.
But damn…talk about your inopportune moments to seem distracted. Your team is already down 2-1 and facing the very real prospect of seeing its dreams of a three-peat evaporate like urine on hot concrete. You’re making nearly $20 million this season so you can exert your considerable powers right now — when your team stands on the precipice of seeing that season come to a disappointing end.
And LeBron had to tinkle.
The Spurs continued to dominate the Heat throughout, pulling away for a 107-86 win that leaves Miami one game way from their most crushing off-season in three years.
Just in case, somebody better have a pack of Depends ready courtside during Sunday’s Game 5 to make sure this scene doesn’t repeat itself.
