Twitter Reacts To #FacebookDown

Facebook’s brief 30-minute crash on Thursday sent the world into disarray as people from across the globe vented their frustration over the short interruption on Twitter.

The outage extended from Australia to the AUE, Europe and the United States and left desktop website, smartphone and tablet app users unable to login. Some forms of social media experienced significant spikes in traffic as a result, leading to #facebookdown trending on Twitter.

“Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting it fixed as soon as we can,” was Facebook’s message at the time, signed off with a 2013 copyright logo.

“Earlier this morning, we experienced an issue that prevented people from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time” a Facebook spokesman has now told Metro.

‘We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100 per cent.  We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The company’s 1.28 billion monthly users have now survived two major crashes in less than a year. Facebook dropped off the face off the earth for four hours in October last year, eventually resurfacing, but not before taking a rough financial hit. The tech company is said to make $15,000 in revenue each minute and Thursday’s outage is estimated to have cost the company a whopping $500,000.
