Diablo 3 is the Best Selling PC Game Ever with 20 Million Units Sold

Activision’s quarterly report has revealed that Diablo 3 has broken the 20 million units sold mark, making it the best-selling PC game ever.

The report states the following:

As of June 30, 2014, Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo III: Reaper of Souls remained the #1 PC game in dollars in both North America and Europe and, including its expansion and digital sales, Diablo III has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide across all platforms since its release in 2012.

Although the reported number is 20 million, around one million of those sales are from the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

Other best selling PC games include Minecraft, The Sims 3, and StarCraft, each of which have experienced similar success.

Diablo 3 had a monumental launch in 2012, selling 3.5 million in its first day. It was quickly met with a mixture of praise and concern. Although much of its design was outstanding, especially when compared to other recent releases in the genre, it had problems with its endgame deterring hardcore players.

Since then, Blizzard has patched the game numerous times, topped off with a successful expansion. It’s now in a state where there’s a lot to do, and gameplay feels rewarding for both casual and hardcore players.

Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition will release in a couple of weeks, bringing Diablo 3 and its Reaper of Souls expansion to console platforms. Diablo 3‘s total sales are sure to improve as a result.
