Update: It appears that in addition to the new feature, Steam has had some minor changes to its default theme, as well as been given a new icon. Here’s what the new icon looks like:
Original Story: Valve has always been one known for listening to customer feedback. In the case of the widely requested game hiding option, it’s taken it a while, though.
As of the latest Steam Beta update, you can now optionally hide games from your library. This allows you to consolidate your library to make choosing which title to play easier. So long are the days of having tons of demos, free games, and titles you never want to play again bulking up your list. That is, if you don’t want them to.
To take advantage of this feature, all you need to do is have Beta mode enabled, and do the following:
1. right click a game on your library and select ‘Set Categories’.
2. There is a check box on the pop-up window that you can check called ‘Hide this game in your library’. This can be selected and deselected depending on whether or not you want a game hidden.
3. Hidden games can be seen by clicking the ‘Games’ entry next to the search bar above the game list, and selecting ‘Hidden’ on the bottom of the drop-down menu.
And that’s all! Using this method you can trim down your game library and only include whatever it is you want to see.

This update is already available for anyone running in beta mode. To switch over to the beta client, click Steam -> Settings, and then under ‘Beta participation’ click ‘Change’. Once you select ‘Steam beta update’ and click ‘OK’, you’ll be prompted to install the latest beta patch.
