Microsoft has accidentally revealed that Windows 9 is “coming soon” on one of its social media channels.
Writing on Chinese social media site Weibo, the software manufacturer made the following post (as translated by The Verge): “Microsoft’s latest OS Windows 9 is coming soon, do you think the start menu at the left bottom will make a comeback?”
The return of the Start button has already been confirmed by Microsoft, so it appears that Microsoft China’s social media manager is a little misinformed. However, with tech previews of the new software expected to be rolled out at the tail-end of this year, it seems likely that we will be getting our hands on the new OS sooner rather than later.
The post was also accompanied by a mock-up Windows 9 wallpaper by Shy Designs, which was quickly removed. The company will host a build of the OS to press during its Windows Threshold event, which is currently scheduled to take place on September 30th. Though preview versions of the operating system were penned to be released in the next few months, no official release date for Windows 9 has been given. This post by Microsoft China suggests that the future of the world’s most famous OS is right around the corner.
