To fans of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, J.A.R.V.I.S. is just an artificially intelligent program that Tony Stark takes for granted. But to comic fans, Edwin Jarvis is the longtime butler for The Avengers.
Marvel has announced that James D’Arcy will portray Edwin Jarvis in “Agent Carter,” which will be the first time that the character has appeared in live action. As created by Stan Lee and Don Heck in 1964, Jarvis was the loyal butler of Tony Stark and his family before coming to work for The Avengers. Jarvis was also a former member of the British Royal Air Force.
For “Agent Carter,” Jarvis will be fairly close to his comic book counterpart as Howard Stark’s butler who will be “an unexpected ally” to Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) as she navigates missions on Stark’s behalf for the Strategic Scientific Reserve; which was the forerunner of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Prior to this role, D’Arcy appeared in Let’s Be Cops, “Broadchurch,” Cloud Atlas, Hitchcock and “Those Who Kill.”
Chad Michael Murray was recently cast as SSR Agent Jack Thompson, while “Dollhouse” veteran Enver Gjokaj was signed to play. Agent Daniel Sousa.
“Agent Carter” will premiere in early 2015 on ABC.
