Yesterday Just For Laughs launches a new YouTube channel that will feature never-before-seen footage of some iconic comedians, including the hilarious Chris Rock as well as political satirist Jon Stewart.
Clips of Dave Chappelle, Louis CK, and Tracy Morgan will also be shown on the YouTube channel. According to CBC News, new content will be uploaded three times a week. Montreal-based JFL is partnering with Maker Studios to run the channel, a Disney-owned media company that is known for its highly viral videos like Epic Rap Battles of History and PewDiePie.
“So much of this hasn’t been seen in the No. 1 market in the world,” said Bruce Hills, COO of Just for Laughs, to Variety. Hills is hoping that the new YouTube channel and footage will garner buzz that will translate to more attendees at the annual Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal every July. They are also hoping the internet channel will attract more American fans.
“Le Groupe Juste Pour Rire” has been for over 30 years the driving force behind the world’s largest comedy festival, and remains the world leader in the distribution of television comedy programming, with viewers in more than 125 countries and on 95 airlines. The visibility of the “Gags” series has reached a new high with over 1 billion YouTube views.
