Facebook Will Now Auto-Enhance Your Photos, Muscling in on Instagram’s Territory

Despite being the social networking site that is used most frequently by people looking to share their photos with their friends, Facebook’s image editing tools have always been somewhat lacking. While you’ve always had the option to upload photos and then edit them in a separate menu, the number of tools at your disposal have been limited and the entire experience is cumbersome.

However, now the company aims to change that, introducing a new auto-enhancing feature that will add a slider to photo uploads, allowing the user to enhance light, shadow and clarity of their photos. While it’s not as robust as Instagram’s social photo sharing features, it certainly adds a new, simplistic method to improve the quality of their photos on the fly, and will certainly prove to be a welcome new feature.

Auto-enhancing has been made available on iOS today, and will be launching on Android soon. Facebook hasn’t implemented it in the desktop version of the site, strictly sticking to mobile in what is surely an effort to gain ground on the likes of Instagram and Snapchat, with the former having introduced five new filters to its toolbox today, and the latter recently allowing users to dual-filter with color filters.

Now when you upload a Facebook through your mobile device, it will automatically enhance the colors of the image to give you what it dictates is the best quality available. You can opt to revert back to the unedited image if you wish, or tinker around with the slider to your heart’s content in order to make your own improvements.

iOS users can update the app today in order to access the new feature.
