The library for the Wii U just got a lot more enticing. Nintendo announced today, via press release, that the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, once wildly popular on the SNES, will be available for download on the WIi U virtual console. Repeat: Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble are all available for download via the Wii U.
With the other two next-gen consoles floundering in terms of must-have exclusives, this announcement really is the rich getting richer and Nintendo thumbing its nose at both Microsoft and Sony. Wii U already has the highest-rated exclusives, in terms of Metascore, and the most exclusives with an 80 ranking or above. And while these aren’t technically Wii U exclusive, it’s certainly a selling point for Nintendo’s premiere platform.

In smaller, but still exciting news, the Donkey Kong Land trilogy is available on Nintendo 3DS via the 3DS virtual console.
As Nintendo has long known, nothing sells faster than nostalgia. They’re clearly hoping this wins them some favor, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. After PS4 failed to lock down the best-exclusive market with The Order: 1886, and the next big Xbox One exclusive won’t be out until Halo 5, the Wii U is looking like the console to beat, in terms of available titles.
