Straight Boy Asks Gay Best Friend to Be His Prom Date and the Internet Exploded with Joy

Anthony Martinez, a student at a High School in Las Vegas, was upset that he didn’t have a date to take to prom, so took to Twitter to vent his frustrations. After seeing the tweet, Anthony’s best friend Jacob Lescenski decided to take it up himself to create a wonderful invitation that has promptly gone viral.

Lescenski’s kind gesture was made after Anthony tweeted: “I dont want to date you i just want a guy as a date to prom. I always help with dances it’d be nice to get asked to one.”

Following the posting of the tweet, Lescenski explained to Pink News how he came up with the idea to make Martinez’s wish a reality, saying: “I decided on going to prom alone because my original date idea didn’t work out so well… then one night I saw Anthony, who is my best friend, tweeting about wanting a date.

“So, I came up with the poster idea, asked my friend Mia to make it and asked him that next day.

“No one knew about it except for me, my friend Jamie, and Mia, who made the poster. It was a giant surprise to everyone, especially Anthony!”

After Lescenski had outstretched his invitation to his best friend, Martizen posted the following tweet which has now garnered thousands of retweets and favorites:

Speaking of the invitation, Martizen said: “[Jacob’s] a real man, given that he has the guts to fulfil my gay student council dream of always helping out planning dances, and never getting asked.

“I couldn’t ask for a better person in my life.”

The pair have received a huge outpouring of kind words from other Twitter users, who have praised the strength of their friendship. It’s certainly a shining example of how far we’ve come in regards to the understanding and acceptance of non-hetero sexual orientations, and how younger generations and their intolerance of more “traditionalist” views  will continue to make the world a more hospitable environment for the LGBT community.
