In late 2013, Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg and his collaborators at Laser Unicorns took to Kickstarter to raise funds for Kung Fury, an amazingly ridiculous parody of ‘80s action films that featured Sandberg in the title role as he took on Adolf Hitler aka Kung Fuhrer, battled gangbangers and dinosaurs in addition to travelling through time with the help of Hackerman and his Power Glove.
The Kung Fury demo reel was very well received and the Kickstarter pulled in $630,000 in 30 days.
Sandberg also wrote and directed the 30 minute extended edition of Kung Fury, which manages to be even more insane than the demo. ‘80s icon David Hasselhoff has a cameo role in the short film and he sang the smash internet single “True Survivor” on the soundtrack, while Saturday Night Live veteran Jorma Taccone played Hitler.
Today, the complete Kung Fury short was released on Youtube, which you can see below.
A few Hollywood studios are reportedly looking to remake Kung Fury as a feature length film, so this may not be the last time you see Sandberg playing the ultimate ‘80s cop.
