Alleged leaked images of the iPhone 6S suggest that the upcoming smartphone will practically be a carbon copy of the iPhone 6 in terms of its looks, but it will receive a few crucial changes under the hood.
According to 9to5Mac, a trusted source when it comes to Apple news, the iPhone 6S will ape its predecessor all the way down to it sharing the same thickness and width, though changes made to its internal mounting structure alter the mounting points for the new device’s logic board and components.
This certainly gives credibility to the rumors circulating that the iPhone 6S will boast a redesigned wireless system powered by the Qualcomm Cat 6.LTE chipset, featuring a Qualcomm MDM9835M chip (more commonly known as the ‘9×35 Gobi modem. But what will this mean for the phone in layman’s terms? Well, this new modem will double the power of the device’s LTE connections, meaning that the iPhone 6S could have a download speed of up to 300Mbps, compared to the iPhone 6’s 150Mbps. The new motherboard is also smaller than the one featured in the iPhone 6, meaning that this could make room for a larger battery.

Other reports suggest that the iPhone 6S could also be available in pink, with improved OLED screens improving the device’s visibility, essentially making it brighter as a result. A faster Touch ID scanner is also said to be making its way to the device (not that the one featured on the iPhone 6 is particularly slow), and that Force Touch will also be introduced, though that was practically a given considering Apple is bringing that feature to the Macbook line.
All-in-all there’s nothing too surprising here, but current iPhone 6 owners will likely be happy that the iPhone 6S won’t feature a huge cosmetic overhaul from Apple, as they won’t feel like they’re missing out on getting their hands on a brand new redesign for the smartphone.
