Garth Ennis is going back to war, and he’s bringing artist Simon Coleby with him!
Ennis and Coleby are teaming up for Dreaming Eagles, a new miniseries from AfterShock Comics. The story was inspired by the Tuskegee airmen and it follows Lt. Reggie Atkinson, one of the first African American fighter pilots in World War II.
For Reggie, “the great War” is still haunting his nightmares two decades later as his son, Lee becomes involved with the Civil Rights movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; and Lee doesn’t fully understand why his father is so hesitant to embrace King’s ideology.
CraveOnline is proud to present an exclusive preview from Dreaming Eagles # 1, in which Reggie attempts to treat Lee for the injuries that he suffered at Dr. King’s event before Reggie’s dreams take him back to the brutal skies over occupied Europe.
Here’s Francesco Francavilla’s cover for Dreaming Eagles # 1, followed by AfterShock Comics’ solicitation text.
Inspired by true events, Dreaming Eagles tells the story of the first African American fighter pilots to join the United States Army Air Force in WWII and whose humble beginnings in Tuskegee, Alabama propelled them into the deadly skies above Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich. Not only were they instrumental against the Nazi war machine, but also braved an equally great challenge, overcoming everyday bigotry amongst their fellow American soldiers as well as civilians at home. High in the heavens, they fought a battle that would change their country and their world forever.
Dreaming Eagles # 1 will be released on Wednesday, December 30 in comic stores everywhere.
