UKIP Member of European Parliament David Coburn found himself the subject of an online prank this week, when the politician’s Periscope livestream to his followers was hijacked by an abundance of people telling him that they couldn’t hear him.
Despite Coburn’s microphone being fully operational, his viewers managed to convince him and his assembled IT crew that his broadcast was completely silent, leading to the bewildered member of the far right-wing party repeating himself over and over again.
Coburn held the livestream in order to express his frustration at not being invited to represent UKIP in a Scottish TV debate with other political party members, which makes it pretty ironic that his attempt at generating publicity on his own terms was met with people ignoring what he had to say, too. Also, top marks should be given to the individual who commented: “Maybe the immigrants stole his mic?”
