Comic-Con came and went without any casting news regarding the new Star Trek series helmed by Bryan Fuller. However, Fuller made sure that fans didn’t go home without some revelations about the first TV show since the end of Star Trek: Enterprise over a decade ago.
During the Star Trek 50th anniversary panel at Comic-Con, Fuller revealed that the new series will be called Star Trek: Discovery. And as the name implies, the series will follow the adventures of the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery. And if that’s not enough to get you excited, Fuller also dropped the first teaser trailer for the series that depicts the test flight of the Discovery!

Via CBS.com, Fuller also shared his vision for the new series: “Star Trek has always been an intimate adventure. An adventure of humankind. What the new series needs to do is continue to be progressive, push boundaries and tell stories that give us hope for a future…One of the most beautiful things of Star Trek is that you have people who see this show and they want to be scientists, they want to make it into space. We have to celebrate a progression of our species because it seems right now we as a species need a little help. There’s nothing like the guiding light that Gene Roddenberry hung high in the sky.”
More specifically, Fuller said “we’ve got new things; we’re telling stories in a brand new way. We’re not going to be doing it episodic. We’re going to be telling stories like a novel.”
Star Trek: Discovery is slated to premiere on CBS in January 2017, before new episodes move to CBS All-Access.
