‘Batman ’66’ Rides Again In ‘Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders’ Trailer

For decades, DC Comics and Batman fans alike basically pretended that the ’60s Batman TV series never happened. It’s true that the show had a detrimental effect on the comics, and it essentially polluted the public’s perception of the medium. That’s why we still get the occasional, “Zap, Pow, Bang! Comics aren’t for kids anymore!” articles. But with the passage of many years, we can look back and appreciate Batman for the camp classic that it was. And now, it’s time for the Dark Knight to get silly again!

This fall, Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar will reprise their roles as Batman, Robin, and Catwoman, respectively in the new animated film, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. It’s a spiritual sequel to the show, which even reunites the best villains from the series: Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and of course, Catwoman as they devise a plan to finally take down the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Return of the Caped Crusaders, and it features some hilariously cheesy lines and a very fun Batmobile vs. Jokermobile sequence.

Does anyone else notice that Chief O’Hara seemed to visibly wince when Commissioner Gordon told Batman that he was their only hope? Batman’s refusal to even jaywalk in pursuit of criminals was also quite funny. The trailer doesn’t really give away many details about the story, but the description provided by Warner Bros. sounds insane.

“It’s back to the 1960s as Batman and Robin spring into action when Gotham City is threatened by a quartet of Batman’s most fiendish foes – Penguin, The Joker, Riddler and Catwoman. This time, the four Super-Villains have combined their wicked talents to hatch a plot so nefarious that the Dynamic Duo will need to go to outer space (and back) to foil their arch enemies and restore order in Gotham City. It’s a truly fantastic adventure that will pit good against evil, good against good, evil against evil … and feature two words that exponentially raise the stakes for both sides: Replicator Ray. Holy Multiplication Tables!”

Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders hits Blu-ray and DVD on November 1. But if you can’t wait that long, the Digital HD version goes on sale October 11.
