Over forty years ago, the master negatives for Doctor Who‘s first adventure of the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) were destroyed by the BBC and no complete recordings of the six-episode serial, “The Power of the Daleks” has ever been found. This fall, that story will finally be retold, but not in the way that anyone was expecting!
BBC has announced that it has created a new animated adaptation of “The Power of the Daleks” using the original audio recordings, as well as the few photographs and clips that managed to survive. The storyline was only broadcast once on BBC, but it is famous for featuring the first regeneration (or renewal) as William Hartnell’s First Doctor transformed into Troughton’s Second Doctor, alongside his companions Polly (Anneke Wills) and Ben (Michael Craze) on the planet Vulcan.
Additionally, BBC has released a few images of the animation, as well as two of the previously mentioned photos from the original episode.

“The Power of the Daleks animation is the most ambitious Doctor Who archive restoration ever attempted and we’re all very honored to be a part of such an exciting project,” said producer and director Charles Norton in a statement released by BBC. “Intelligent, suspenseful and magnificently staged, The Power of the Daleks is one of the great lost classics of 1960s television and a superb example of the black and white era at its finest.” Comic book artists Martin Geraghty and Adrian Salmon provided the new character designs based on the classic elements.
BBC America will air Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks on Saturday, November 12.
