Tyson Fury has announced that he has retired from boxing, shortly following the revelation that he had tested positive for cocaine and that his rematch against Wladimir Klitschko would therefore be canceled.
Fury made the announcement via Twitter, calling boxing “the saddest thing I ever took part in, all a pile of shit”:
Fury’s positive drug test result resulted in him being criticised by Klitschko’s manager Bernd Bönte, who branded him the “most unworthy heavyweight champion in history.” Bönte condemned the “whole package of [Fury’s] sexist comments, his antisemitic comments and his homophobic comments that have been [well documented],” with him also suggesting that there should have been a VADA testing before the first Fury and Klitschko fight.
In response to the news of his failed drug test, Fury posted a PhotoShopped image of his head on Scarface protagonist Tony Montana’s body, along with a caption reading: “#Tysonmontana”.
There has been no official confirmation from Fury’s camp regarding his retirement, though if his tweet is to be believed then he will be forced to retire the four heavyweight belts he won during his title unification fight against Klitschko. Many have called for popular heavyweight Anthony Joshua to replace him in the Klitschko rematch.
