Exclusive Playlist | Sigma Break Down Their First DJ Gig

Sigma may sound like the name of a healthcare plan (that’s Cigna) to those who don’t know their BPMs from their MPHs, but across the pond, the British DJ/production duo are stars who have collaborated with the likes of Paloma Faith and Rita Ora, earned two platinum awards and been nominated for two Brit awards.

Their latest single, “Find Me” featuring Birdy, has racked up six million views on YouTube (see it below) and stars breakout Millie Brown aka “Eleven” from Netflix’s Stranger Things.

That’s quite an impressive resume for Cameron James “Cam” Edwards and Joseph Aluin “Joe” Lenzie, a couple of lads who met at Leeds University at drum and bass nights.

Sigma are the next featured artists in Crave’s ongoing playlist series, The Breaks, which features world-class DJ/producers talking about their “first time” and what they played the night they got their “big break.”

“We didn’t used to have an agent when we first started out,” says the duo in an email interview, “so we used to trawl myspace for promoters and we used to hit them up and blag gigs for basically nothing! We got a gig in Portugal and played for a promoter who is now a friend of ours but he’s insane!!

“We had a dinner of pigs intestines and offal then went to the club and DJ’d at 6am to a crowd of mashed up Portuguese ravers! They screamed play harder for two hours and when we wanted to come off the promoter wouldn’t let us so we played for three (more) hours then went to the airport. For one of our first shows outside of the UK it was pretty memorable!

“Masai” by Sigma

This was our first ever release. It was a big moment for us. Unfortunately it went down like a sack of shit! We liked it at the time though.

“Asteroids” by Culture Shock

Basically the only non-drum and bass tune we played for the whole set. Yes three hours of DnB!

 “All blue” by Sigma

Another one of our tunes we made when we were starting out with help by our friends in Chase and Status.

“The Nine” by Bad Company

An absolute classic drum and bass tune.

“Facade” by Noisia

This is by far Noisia at their best! We loved this tune and it was a consistent track through our early sets.
