Fox Orders Pilot For ‘X-Men’ Related TV Series

Next month, FX is set to debut Legion, a series about a Marvel mutant character with multiple personalities. And while that show is expected to stand apart from the live-action X-Men films, Fox has just added another X-Men related series to its development slate and ordered a pilot episode.

Variety is reporting that the currently untitled series is moving forward with a pilot written and executive produced by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix.  The show would revolve around a pair of human parents whose kids are identified as mutants. To survive, the family becomes involved with an underground mutant network as they attempt to stay one step ahead of a very hostile government.

Nix has previously mentioned that there will be Sentinels in this show, which doesn’t completely fit with the reconfigured timeline of the X-Men movies. But the continuity of those films is already so screwed up that it probably won’t be that big of a deal. It’s also likely that the show would feature lesser known mutant heroes than the ones who have already appeared on the big screen.

Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb is executive producing the series alongside the X-Men movie franchise’s Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, and Jim Chory. Presumably, the involvement of Singer and Kinberg will ensure that there are strong ties between the show and the movies. But that hasn’t exactly been the case with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Netflix Marvel series, which seem to be intentionally separated from the Marvel Studios films despite sharing continuity. Time will tell if that happens again here.
