‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ Finally Gets a Date on Netflix

After 18 years, the not-too-distant future has almost arrived! Earlier this week, team behind the revival of Mystery Science Theater 3000 hosted a special screening of the first new episode for backers of its wildly successful Kickstarter campaign. And as part of the event, Netflix announced the premiere date for the new season.

The MST3K reboot, (or season 11, if you prefer), will drop on Friday, April 14, a little under two months from now. That will include 14 new episodes starring the new cast of the series, including Jonah Ray as the new host, Jonah Heston. Also joining the crew of the Satellite of Love are Baron Vaughn and Hampton Yount as the new voices of Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot, respectively. Felicia Day co-stars in the revival as Kinga Forrester, the daughter of Dr. Forrester, a mad scientist on the original series. Patton Oswalt is playing Son of TV’s Frank, another one of the Mads from the original MST3K.

Series creator Joel Hodgson is spearheading the new MST3K episodes, and at least a few of the original cast members are expected to make cameo appearances during the new season. Notably, most of the team that went on to form Rifftrax have indicated that they will not participate in the reboot; which means we may never get an episode in which Joel, Mike, and Jonah share the stage at the same time.

Additionally, Dark Horse Comics recent announced plans to bring MST3K to comics, but the company didn’t indicate which of the three hosts will be used. Considering the revival is about to land, our bet would be on Jonah Ray and the new cast. But we can’t rule out the other hosts making appearances as well, since the comics may be able to use Mike even if Mike Nelson isn’t interested in reprising his role.
