Wonder Woman Meets Conan the Barbarian In New Crossover

Back in the ’70s and ’80s, Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian’s comic book adventures were published by Marvel. That’s why it wasn’t unusual for Conan to occasionally cross paths with Thor and even Wolverine during alternate timeline crossover stories. Now that Conan has had a long stint at Dark Horse Comics, the door is open for even wilder comic book crossovers. And this time, Conan has more than met his match.

DC Comics and Dark Horse Comics have jointly announced Wonder Woman/Conan, a six-issue miniseries that will unite two of the fiercest warriors in comics. Former Wonder Woman writer Gail Simone is reuniting with artist Aaron Lopresti for this tale. “I love crossovers, I love Wonder Woman, and being able to bring the undisputed greatest warriors of the DCU and Robert E. Howard’s Hyborian Age together for the very first time is a dream come true,” said Simone in a statement.

Here’s the official description from DC, which doesn’t offer much of an explanation for how and when these two heroes will encounter each other.

“What makes one a legend? How do legends carve their name into history, when countless others are forgotten? Wonder Woman and Conan the Barbarian are destined by the fates to be legendary, but when their stories collide, will both emerge victorious, or will the fickle Gods cut their lives short?”

Simone previously wrote Red Sonja and the the Conan/Red Sonja crossover, so she’s very familiar with Conan’s era as well. Years ago, Marvel and Dynamite also published a Spider-Man/Red Sonja crossover, which is just another connection in the ongoing game of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon: Comic Book Edition. Marvel and DC haven’t had a crossover with each other for over a decade, but apparently everyone else is fair game between them.

Wonder Woman/Conan The Barbarian # 1 will hit comic book stores on September 20th.
