Rick Astley Performing ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ With 200 Singers In Canadian Basement Is The Coolest Thing He’s Ever Done

We have to admit, we were expecting to get rick-rolled about 30 seconds into this video of Rick Astley doing his thing with the gang from Choir! Choir! Choir!, so it was pleasantly surprising when that didn’t happen.

According to CBC, Choir! Choir! Choir! is a phenomenal group of roughly 200 singers who get together in basements, on hills and even on stages as big as Carnegie Hall to sing some of pop and rock music’s biggest hits simply because performing music is so much fun. The group reached out to Rick Astley in March and asked him to come to Toronto to perform his 1987 hit song “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

Being Rick Astley and all, he obviously accepted their invitation or we wouldn’t be doing a story on it. “Rick Astley Declines Toronto Group’s Invite To Sing With Them” really doesn’t seem like it would garner too many hits. Anyway, Astley was led to a basement somewhere in Toronto, and what followed was truly magical. Give it a listen.

Following the amazing performance, Astley was asked by the group’s founders Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman to challenge another pop or rock star to make the trip to Toronto and join them on stage.

Astley’s choice? You guessed it — Dave Grohl.

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time a massive group of performers has asked Grohl and his Foo Fighters bandmates to join them in their town for a show. In 2015, a group of 1,000 musicians banded together (pun intended) to woo Grohl and the Foos to their tiny Italian town by performing “Learn To Fly” in a field, and it worked!

Will Grohl and Co. make the trek to Toronto and accept C!C!C!’s invite to rock somebody’s basement? Honestly, we don’t know, but the suspense is killing us.
