Tony Stewart Killed A Dude

In case you weren’t on Facebook or Twitter this weekend because you left your phone at the bar and you couldn’t find your laptop charger, then you missed how NASCAR driver Tony Stewart ran over fellow driver, 20-year-old Kevin Ward Jr., during a sprint car race on Saturday night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York. Long story short, Stewart caused Ward to crash into the wall, Ward got out of his car, ran onto the track, and when Stewart came around the turn, he struck Ward, throwing him 20 feet and breaking his neck. Ward was pronounced dead before he made it to the hospital. That’s the simple version. The more complicated version is that Tony Stewart is one of the biggest douchebags in sports, who has a long history of causing crashes. On the other hand, he’s also been a few horrific wrecks himself and has helped developed safety features that are currently being used by NASCAR. Did he swerve into Ward? Did he fishtail then keeping it real went wrong? Did his breaks lock up? Who knows. This could be vehicular homicide, manslaughter, or just another example of why your mother told you not to play in the street, because no matter the outcome, wearing all black then running towards cars at night, probably isn’t the best way to solve an argument. If Kevin Ward, Jr.’s family can take any consolation from this, its that he technically stayed on a race track longer than Danica Patrick.
