Meanwhile in Florida: Sofia Vergara Buys 10-Year-Old Boy’s Stunning Art at Art Basel, Well Played Young Lad

If you’ve ever gone to a modern art gallery or show, you’ve probably found yourself muttering, “My kid could’ve painted that!” Well, in the case of 10-year-old Andres Valencia, a kid did paint that. The painter prodigy made a splash at Art Miami recently, where he was the youngest artist to ever show there. The talented young man has already attracted a laundry list of big-name star buyers like Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara.

“I’m so happy [Vergara] bought my piece,” Andres told the New York Post.

Vergara wasn’t the only celebrity attracted to the child artist’s work. Jordan Belfort — the infamous trader depicted by Leonardo DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street also purchased a painting. Channing Tatum, Brooke Shields and Shepard Fairey are among the other celebs who perused Andres’ booth at Art Miami.

“I’ve been in the art world for nearly 30 years, and I’ve never witnessed someone this young so talented,” Nick Korniloff, Art Miami’s executive director, told the New York Post. “The art world’s responsibility is to find the next great artists, and we’ve done that with Andres. He’s gone global in 36 hours.”

Andres is inspired by artists like Picasso, Modigliani, Dali, George Condo and Basquiat. While he paints, he jams out to tunes from Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson.

“I paint in little pieces,” Andres told the New York Post. “I work on it for an hour or two. Then I go do something else. I come back to it the next day and keep adding more.”

That slow and steady approach has apparently panned out. Andres’ entire collection of 17 pantings – priced anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000 – sold out in only three days at Art Miami. And he isn’t stopping anytime soon.

“I’m so happy to sell my paintings,” he told the New York Post. “I’m not emotionally attached because I know I can always make another one.”
