Despite being less than three months away from release, we still don’t know a whole lot about The Batman. The film’s trailers have done a good job of keeping the plot under wraps, and only recently have gotten our first good look at the film’s villains and learned the rating. However, the film’s director, Matt Reeves, has slowly been leaving a trail of Riddler-Esque bread crumbs for us to follow up to release.
One thing we do know is how sprawling the story of The Batman will be, which only has us more excited. Now, the film’s runtime has been confirmed for a whopping 2 hours and 55 minutes. For those keeping score at home, that makes the movie 10 minutes longer than The Dark Knight Rises. Which can only mean one thing – it’s time to bust out the catheter.
But there’s more!
Reeves and composer Michael Giacchino also took to social media to share some new music from the film. Giacchino’s dark theme was composed even before a frame of the film was shot, so that makes it extra cool. Reeves added he and his producing partner Dylan Clark had “chills” when listening to it the first time. So dark, in fact, that Adam West may be rolling in his grave at this very moment.
Included in the suite is the main theme, a romantic theme, and something a little more melancholy for all the Pattinson sad boys out there. In all seriousness, this feels more like a collection of musical motifs than a traditional score. What’s so interesting is that it feels like a homage to previous scores in the franchise by Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer. At the same time, he’s also adding something new and fresh to the franchise’s palette.
There’s some truly great stuff here, and it’s only a tease of what’s to come. The Batman arrives in theaters on March 4, 2022.
