Space Force

‘Space Force’ Season 2: Has This Joke Has Run Its Course Yet?

Like the Tiger Kings of past, there are several Netflix series that have penetrated the cultural zeitgeist in terms of popular appeal. Space Force is not one of them. Despite only having one season, the series is a relic of the Trump presidency, also known as the dark years. Space Force was greenlit almost immediately after the announcement of the show’s real-life counterpart. However, the first season, which premiered right as the pandemic hit, served as proof that people weren’t ready to be reminded of the past in that way.

Nearly two years after the first season premiered, so much has not changed. We are living in a better, more equal world. Yet, reality has struck once again, forcing us to live with sins of the past after the release of the trailer for Space Force Season 2. To quote CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, “Ah shit, here we go again.”

In all seriousness, Space Force has the ability to be entertaining. And yet there’s something antiquated about this series, even though it’s only in its sophomore season. At the very least, the series will finally have the breathing room to justify its existence. At the very best, the surprisingly great cast for the upcoming season will finally have a chance to overcome the outdated premise.

Has Space Force already run its course? Time will tell as the second season of Space Force arrives on Netflix on February 18, 2022.
