‘Mortal Kombat’ Getting Sequel, Studio Promises This One Will For Sure Be Good This Time

The Mortal Kombat franchise is about to test its might once again. Warner Bros has announced that 2021’s Mortal Kombat will be getting a sequel, promising that it will actually be good this time. The beloved game series has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the years. Despite being only being four entries deep, the Mortal Kombat film franchise is another can of worms entirely. From the 1995 original (which is great) to the underrated Mortal Kombat: Legacy, the series has seen its high points.

At the same time, the lows have been low. There’s no denying that Mortal Kombat: Annihilation ranks amongst one of the worst video game adaptations ever made. Then there’s the confusingly-titled Motral Kombat (2021), which was quite the mess in an entirely different kind of way. Naturally, this begs us to ask the question — can they actually make a good sequel? Unsurprisingly, Warner Bros is about to test that theory.

The Mortal Kombat sequel is set to be written by Jeremy Slater, which is a good sign of hope. His name will soon become known as the guy who wrote Marvel’s Moon Knight series. Word on the street says that many of the 2021 cast members aren’t contractually obligated to return. This is good news in the sense that you have the ability to wipe the slate clean and tell the story from a fresh perspective. Whether the Mortal Kombat sequel actually fulfills that promise remains to be seen.
