Larry David Pulls HBO Documentary Hours Before Premiere (‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Indeed)

When Larry David made Curb Your Enthusiasm a household phrase (and binge-worthy TV show), he really meant it. Fans of the notorious curmudgeon were crushed to hear they will have to wait an indefinite amount of time to see the HBO documentary on the Seinfeld creator, which David apparently pulled just hours before it was set to premiere.

The two-part documentary, titled The Larry David Story, was supposed to drop on March 1. But instead of a behind-the-scenes look at their favorite comic actor and writer, fans got this tweet from HBO instead.

“The #LarryDavidStory on @HBOMax is being postponed,” the tweet read. “Instead, Larry has decided he wants to do it in front of an audience. Stay tuned for more info.”

Fans were understandably bummed…and a little confused.

The film was supposed to feature the 74-year-old comic sitting down with director Larry Charles “for a peek behind the proverbial curtain, as David gets candid about his personal and professional highs and lows, from his humble beginnings as an unfunny Brooklyn kid to becoming America’s favorite misanthrope,” HBO said in a press release.

How this would play “in front of an audience” is unclear, though the New York Post cited an anonymous source as saying David is hatching plans for a “live stage version” of the doc. We can’t even fathom what that would look like – other than David playing himself.
